  1. What kind of help were you thinking about?

  2. Absolutely! My sorors look out for me and I look for them. It is an extended family that supports and loves you no matter what!

  3. Definitely! Association has it's benefits. The biggest help I can think of is finding employment after college. If the hiring manager is an alumnus of your organization, you'll have the edge. I've even heard of people give more consideration to people because they were in a fraternity that was different from the hiring manager. Greeks look out for each other.

  4. Yes a greek organization can help their members both during and after the college experience.  Those select people that do decide to join an organization find that it is very similar to a family away from home.  Joining an organization has many benefits from making friendships that will last a lifetime, to helping a member academically through out their college career.  Alumni are also helpful to both fellow alumni and active members in an organization.  A friend lost his home in a fire and another alumni brother took him and his family in till they got back on their feet.  Greek organizations will help their members, those are the bonds you can form.

  5. I looked for a fraternity that would meet my needs when I was in college. None exiosted. Together with over 65 other men, we affiliated with an international fraternity and although we never acheived chapter status on that campus, I can state with absolute certainty that I benefitted greatly from my association.

Once, I was in a foreign airport: no cash, no credit card, flight delayed 2 days, no food. I was able to page a certain person (fraternity secret) and met up with 3 alumni. One gave me $100 and his business card: told me to pay it forward. One arranged for me to have a hotel room to crash in, and one other hooked me up with the first class lounge and a seat upgrade.

I am still involved as an alumni working with many fine young men at a growing chapter.

Was it all worth it? yes.

Will you find value in it? it is not for everybody. Sometimes the process of affiliating can be onerous. Lots of things to do, investment in time. The long term benefits though, in my mind, outweigh any negatives encountered in the association process.
