Hi...I am a greencard holder living in the states and I have applied for citizenship. My fiancee is an iranian citizen who is at the moment studiing in Ukraine. Can I bring him here while I am green card holder or do I need to wait till I am citizen? If so, what are the stepsI have to take and how long does it take for him to come??

Thanks

  1. YES u can. But ur fiancee's imigration process will be faster once u get ur citizenship. Go to nearby USCIS and talk to them. I would tell u to get ur citizenship first otherwise i could take lil bit longer.USCIS give more preferance to citizens than green card holders and both comes in different category.check out www.uscis.org.

  2. Of course, you can get married. However, while you would be able to file an F2a immigrant visa petition for him, that petition would take about 5 years before it becomes valid for use. You don't need to wait to become a citizen to get married or file a petition, but it will be some time before the 2 of you can live together in the US. If you do get married and file a petition now, if you become a citizen while you're waiting for the petition, it will upgraded to an IR-1 petition which would be valid once it's approved. But be sure to tell USCIS that you have a petition for your husband as they won't go look for it on their own unless you tell them to.

  3. You may get married and petition for him to come, but there is a waiting list of several years. There would be no waiting list if you were a US citizen, although in that case the process may still take several months for all the paperwork to be processed.
