Can a heating pad be used as a warm compress?

The doctor told me to put a warm compress on my face for an abcess but I was wondering if it had to be a warm rag or could I use a heating pad?

The heating pad would be fine, you may want to place a cloth over your face and then lay the heating pad on it, the main thing you have to watch is not to burn your face.

that would be fine..a warm rag isn't going to last very long vs. heating pad will last as long as you apply it to the site..

It would be best that you don't apply it no more than 15 to 20 minutes each hour though

Yes you can use a heating pad. They just want you to get warmth on it. The only worry about heating pads is: Don't fall asleep on a heating pad with it on."
