Can a heavy object harm a central AC unit?

The mowers ran into our central air unit today and when I got home from work the A/c would not turn on, but the heat would kick in- so I know it's not the thermostat. Before I go yelling at my landlord, I wanted to know- is this a coincidence, or could getting hit by a lawn mower make the central air stop working?

  1. Yes. Those radiator, (condenser), coils are delicate.

Once you lose the refrigerant, the unit is inoperable.

  2. Of course.  If the refrigerant line was punctured by the impact. you would see what you are seeing.  The mowers should take responsibility for repairs.

  3. I would call your landlord right away.  The condenser in your unit could of been damaged,

  4. I would go out and see if the control(24 volt)wires are disconnected at your condenser.Apartments are notorious for running them exposed so that they are easily disconnected.Check it out and reconnect them.It might be worth it for some cooling.Good luck
