Question:

Can a highschooler in illinois drop out at 16 for a semester and then come back for the next semester?

my sister wants to get out of school for personal reasons that are understandable for her first semester. but she doesnt knows if thats going to affect her GPA? shes an all A student. in honors and she could still graduate on time in she doesnt goes for one semester.

Yes, she can.  Just tell them that she is going to be homeschooled.  There are no restrictions on homeschooling in IL and kids can go back to school if they want.  I wouldn't tell them that she is going to "drop out" though, I don't know if that will have other consequences.  You do not have to prove anything for homeschooling.  Just send a certified letter to the school saying that she is leaving to be schooled privately.  Say exactly that and you are done.  Do not register with the county or board or anything.  It is our right in IL to not have to register with anyone.  Look up www.HSLDA.com and type in IL.  That is my source.
