  1. My question is what is the date on the letter of notification?

Most tour operators in their booking conditions state something similar to the following:

We will not change your holiday price within 30 days of travel.

Outside of that time, we reserve the right to amend your holiday price.  We will absorb the first 2% of any increase.  You will be charged for any amount over that, plus usually a small £1.00pp admin fee to cover costs, plus an amount agent commissions, if necessary.

If your holiday cost goes up over 10% with these changes, you will usually be allowed to cancel free of charge, or change to an alternative holiday without paying amendment fees.

Check and see when they issued notification, and check their booking conditions.  They should (in theory!!) know their own terms of business, and shouldn't be sending you anything that is against them, though I have seen operators "try it on" before!

  2. No, you signed a contract for the original price. Just say due to hidden charges that you'll just have your money back. If they say no because of the contract say exactly, we signed a contract. SIMPLE. 10 points.

  3. If it was in the terms you agreed when you paid for the holiday yes. Whether it is disputable is another matter. I would ask them to fully justify the surcharge and show it is correctly within their terms. You also need to ask if the fuel price reduces on date of departure will you get a refund.
