The building inspector wants the name of the plumber, their lisence and insurance info but why can't the owner do the work himself like you would be able to in a single family house?

  1. I don't know where you live, but you will find out when you submit your plans and license for consideration (assuming you have a license)

  2. Because multi-family means it is a rental type property. There are safety issues involved. Just like doing Commercial Plumbing over House plumbing. This is especially true if you are not going to be one of the residents.

  3. yes as long as you don't hire someone , that would require you get work-mans comp coverage. Inspectors sometimes don't like teaching much, you better be able to get the knowledge of correct installation yourself.

  4. Unfortunately there are 3 areas that require licensed contractors.

    1) Electrical

    2) Plumbing

    3) HVAC

That's just the way it is.All other areas require standard inspections.
