Can a homeowner install PV solar panels then sell "carbon credits" in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol?

I have been reading about businesses that engage in "carbon projects" that cut the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs). These companies can then sell the associated "carbon credits" on the open markets under the "emissions trading scheme". Could a household or a group of households establish a carbon project in order to offset the costs of the Solar Panels?

  1. Put your carbon credits on eBay- I'm sure there are plenty of suckers willing to pay up.

  2. It is more likely that people who do not have PV panels  will be buying carbon credits to use grid power. Now I expect the utility will charge for its carbon credit purchases in the price per kW.

Here in Ontario, PV installations can collect 42 cents per kWh and that is assumed to include carbon credits. Just as a general rule we expect all PV installations will need to negotiate a price based on  and including any carbon credits the utility would have to buy.

  3. HAAA!!!!  The answer is No.  1. the US (assuming that is where you are) does noy recognize the kyoto protocol in accordance with other nations. 2. It only applies to currently regulated power plants. Private ones and schools do not apply...
