My account on a RPG game was hacked so ive ran AVG 7.5 and it discovered a trojan and a backdoor program , so i deleted them. I ran another scan and it found nothing. Even if they're are deleted i still feel a bit paranoid. so can a key logger track through secure websites?. And do you believe the key logger is gone?

  1. Yes. a keylogger actually runs as a program, so anything you type will be recorded.

  2. You should run an anti-spyware program. A keylogger generally would be classified as Spyware as it doesn't alternate or download files on your computer like a virus or trojan would so it maybe possible that AVG didn't pick up the keylogger.

Hmm..then your computer should be clean.

I've seen keyloggers run through DLL files, not actually executables (so they run acting as an application 'helper file')--attaching to programs. They are generally easy to catch from anti-spyware programs. I believe you are safe.

But yes, a keylogger can track literally anything you type, any key you press. Keyloggers are known to steal passwords and credit-card numbers.

If you are super paranoid, you can always go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Accessibility -> On - Screen Keyboard. Then instead of typing passwords or other personal data onto websites and such you'd be clicking it, you will be very safe (unless someone is standing behind you.) Keyloggers cannot track mouse coordinates and clicks [:

  3. If I were you, I'd set my computer to Factory Default. This means its in exact condition as how you bought it. This would completely delete everything on your computer. Everything on the hard drives, etc. This for me would be the best solution to get rid of the key logger and paranoid thoughts. Two years ago I got a key logger onto my computer by downloading a program thought to help me for a game called "Habbo". So Factory Default would be the best solution.

BTW, how did you get the key logger onto your computer? Did you try downloading something from a third party site? If so, only download the programs that receive positive feedback by others and good ratings. Never download ones that are underground and no one has replied too.

EDIT: Erm, do you have the link where you downloaded the program? And has it been downloaded many times by others or not? I'm guessing its from a forum site like gamerzplanet. When I download files on the net from other users, the first thing I make sure is that its been downloaded by many others and approved.
