  1. First of all, even though you are renting it, the apartment is owned and managed by the landlord. Landlords do have the legal right to enter their rented properties. If you've given notice and are moving, then I would lock up my valuable jewelry and not leave credit card or bank info lying around when I wasn't there.

  2. You need to read youre lease agreement. I am a landlord in Texas and the answer is yes. All I am required to do is to attempt to notify the resident. That can be done by a phone call. Youre landlord should have keys to his own property unless the locks have been changed without his knowledge, and thats a violation of the lease agreement, in texas

  3. If a tenant is shortly going to vacate, the landlord has a right to show the premises to prospects, during reasonable hours, upon reasonable notice to the tenant.  If tenant refuse the landlord such access, he may not "break into" the apartment.  But he can claim that your action caused a loss rent, and so hold back on security deposit, or even bring a suit in court to recover his loss!

  4. No, and this needs to stop.  You have the right to receive 48 hour written notice before your landlord enters your home.  When you signed up to live there you were guaranteed (by the law) the peaceful enjoyment of that home.  You are not receiving that.  I would write a letter that you expect to receive your 48 hour notice before any future entry.  You are being completely serious.

A landlord doesn't need this notice if water is flooding out the front door or the house is in flames.  For anything else he does. /

  5. Your landlord is to supposed to notify prior to entering your apartment for any reason.

  6. Most landlords don't need to break in as they should have keys and that is their right. They do not however have the right to enter without giving you 24 hours notice. Once proper notice has been given they can enter if your there or not so put anything of value under lock and key or better yet, remove it from the apartment.Try to keep things picked up & tidy so he isn't in there looking for reasons to keep your deposit while he's showing it.
