just upgraded from a new carrera road bike to a second hand coppi... even tho it`s second hand it`s top spec, half carbon, full dura ace set up and weighs almost nothing & its very fast but when in top gear it`s still fairly easy 2 peddle compared to the carrera therfore not as fast top end even tho both bikes have 16 gears ??? it has been serviced and running a1

thanks !

  1. You do not say what teeth are on the chain rings or what cogs you have at the rear wheel.  But, if its a higher gear you want you will have to buy and fit another cassette with a smaller cog than the one fitted at present.  I would also advise that you buy a new chain with the cassette as a worn or stretched chain will jump under pressure.  I would say the cost for the parts would be about £35, but more if you cannot do the job yourself.  Hope that helps.

  2. Try either changing the cassette to one with a higher ratio.  Shouldn't be any more than $100 or less if you look on Ebay.

  3. Need to know existing gear set up, how many teeth on largest chain ring and smallest sprocket?

    EDIT,

Look at http://cycle.shimano-eu.com, for Dura Ace they list a 56 top ring on the hollow crank and 11 tooth min on the cassette, if these are bigger/smaller than existing set up, you shoiuld be able to improve your ratios, but dura ace ain,t cheap. you also need to check if your front changer is compatible.

  4. I changed mine on an old Holdsworth Electra using a 'Stronglight', so yes - but expect the prices to be anything from reasonable to 'calibrated with rocket science?' - I've seen a front sprocket that's over £400 - it's a material thing though, a good price larger sprocket should be readily available.

On Record Breakers someone once pedalled a bicycle on a treadmill type system, so as to remain on the spot, and using a front sprocket you would compare in size more to the wheels of a bicycle, he attained a very high top speed - it got the wobbles though and he stopped, so not as fast as he reckoned he could achieve.

(Not to be confused with the 'clean shoes conscious' treadmill bike http://www.revver.com/video/703863/the-t... )
