  1. yes, and it can be easy if you have a wielding/arc weld machine. if not, then it still can be relatively inexpensive to have it professionally fixed.

  2. Welding cast Iron is almost impossible because of the cast iron properties. it will run the crack as you weld. There is a technique of brass lugging each end of the crack before welding and heating the whole section to be patched to an even temp, but is usually impractical in a steam or hot water boiler.

But  if the leak itself if not too extreme, It can be sealed with a product called boiler sealer.

It is a powder or premixed solution that when poured into the boiler in the right amount then percolated a while will heal the leak. The instructions are on the can. A brand name I remember is called SOS boiler sealer. The right steam fitter or boiler service tech with old time experience has done it and will know how.

  3. your better off just buying a new one.

  4. It take a special welder to weld up a hole or crack in cast iron. Don't weld it with a regular arc welder or even a torch welder. The heat causes other places to crack.

  5. Yes it can. But it takes alot of time.
