I am a Legal Citizen (got a green card) and I want to become a police officer but many people have told me that I have to be an American Citizen, is this true?

Something else, I don not have college hours can I still enroll?

  1. IT DEPENDS WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN IN CALIFORNIA YOU MUST BE A US CITIZEN TO BE A COP BUT YOU COULD WORK IN PRISON AS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER BN A RESIDENT.

  2. You CAN become a police officer IF you go through college. HINT: Take the first law enforcement job that's offered to you, to get started. And then apply elsewhere to try to get the better job.

  3. Yes some departments allow permanent resident aliens to become peace officers.

For example in the metro Denver area both Lakewood and Arvada (the 4th and 6th biggest PDs in the state) allow green card holders to become cops, whereas most of the other metro area depts specify US citizen.

It may be different for other states, as CO's POST standards no not specify the citizenship requirement.
