Can a liberal be a Christian?

Question

I say no, because everything a liberal seems to want for society is contrary to the Bibles teachings. This is a main reason why I say politics and religion go hand in hand. Because it says liberal and conservative, but I think the real terms should be Christian and non-Christian. That's the real view of it.

Yes!  The Prophet Amos in the Old Testament was an activist for the poor and other issues.  Jesus, our Lord and Savior, said if a man needs a coat then give it to him and if someone is hungry then feed him.  And then, of course, there's the ever famous turn the other cheek.  Does that sound like a Republican to you?  Our forefathers created Separation of Church and State in our Constitution for a reason.

I think liberal christians have grasped the idea that not everyone shares their beliefs and that some people don't live their lives according to the Bible.  Therefore, the liberals want everyone to live their lives in their own way.  This is something the conservatives haven't figured out yet.  They follow the Bible, so everyone else should as well.

One can be a christian, and follow the Bible, while still acknowledging that other people DON'T follow the Bible.  The liberals practice their faith without pushing it on others.  It seems to me that conservatives, don't allow for the fact that there are people in America who aren't christians.

Yes.

They are christians that are open to other religions. They see themselves as doing their thing while others do their thing. They follow the bible and the law of the land; which the bible does call for.  However, they are oblivious to what they are surrounding themselves with and/or to what is surrounding them.  

They also see themselves  as advocating for other people and interest. Ex: equality for blacks in the 60's.  They view things like that as a christian thing to do; which it was.  

There is and can be seen, a major difference between christian liberals and liberals in general.

it's obvious to me that "Christian values" and interpretations of the bible vary from one individual to another....whether or not they are politically liberal is of no consequence to their religious adherance.

Think for a second....

Do you think Jesus envisioned a captialist society or a utopian society ?

Christian is not a political affiliation, it's a religious one, and any attempt to make it such is as un-Christian as it gets....

who are you to decide who is a valid Christian and who is not based on whether or not their opinions match yours ?

You should drop the holier than thou attitude, and realize that people on both sides want whats best for our country, they just have different ideas of what that is..... and leave religion out of it.
