Can a love bird and a budgie be put together?

We have a female budgie and we're thinking about getting a lovebird, but we would like to know if it's compatible. If not, what are some other breeds that could go with a budgie

Please don't put 2 birds in 2 different species together . Lovebird would kill the budgie for sure . Each bird should have its own cage for the safety , besides , lovebirds eat cockateils seed , budgie eats seed as canaries & finches . TM.
