Can a match ignite if kept in hot temperatures??

if one was kept crammed away some where realy hot could it catch fire

  1. The answer to this question has a couple parts.  Matches need to be applied to a direct source of heat (i.e. friction or other fire or even EXTREMELY hot objects like the metal of a grill that has just been on a fire).  

    The temperatures you are talking about to have "spontaneous combustion" within a match would be at a temperature that no human could survive!  The typical match nowadays uses phosphorous tips (safety matches).  In order for it to burn, it needs to experience temperatures of 200 degrees Celsius, or about 392 degrees Fahrenheit.  The flame itself usually burns between 600 - 800 degrees Celsius, or 1112 - 1472 degrees Fahrenheit.

    So, to answer your question.  It would NOT be possible for a match to ignite from just being in really hot temperatures (unless the temperatures are greater than 200 degrees Celsius/392 degrees Fahrenheit).
