Can a mechanical engineer work in software or IT company?

i am FE student of pune university thread mech.

wanna know if i can work in any software company or

i have to change to computer branch???!!!

Yes of course!

My boss is not only a mechanical engineer and vice president of the company I work for, but about half of our company is based in Pune.

Just make sure you have a good software background and try to pick a company whose products interest you.

Most ME's would probably not want to work for software or IT companies. Many of these companies do not know when they need the ME skill.

Frankly my friend my answer is no.

You could only be a Mechanical Engineer and work for an IT or software company if it is based on somebodies basement of or trailer. Good software companies will not go for you if you don't have a computer related degree.

If that company has a production line for software then you could work there. You would mostly be in charge of maintenance of the machinery and perform statistic analysis for maximization of resources and such.
