Can a mental therapist write prescriptions?

im goin to a mental therapist for the first time and i was just wonder if a therapist can prescribe me antidepressant pills

  1. Yes. I'm almost positive.  


  2. a psychologist no...unless you found one on new mexico or hawaii with Rx priveledges....a psychiatrist yes.  thats what they do.  A counselor no....but they can refer you to a psychiatrist for meds if they think it would benefit your treatment.  always remember treatment is best when the meds and still conbined with therapy...not just by themselves...they are not miracle pills.

  4. If the mental therapist is an MD (medical doctor), then he/she can write prescriptions.

    Most therapists cannot write prescriptions.  You will need to see a psychiatrist.  Psychiatrists are medical doctors.
