  1. It would depend on the mental challenges they face. There are lots of different types of "mental challenges" and only some would disqualify you from adopting. They would go through a homestudy process and social workers would decide if it would be in the best interests of a child for them to adopt and parent a child. Obviously if someone is not able to care for themself, then they will not be able to care for a child, but if they are able to care for themselves and someone else, then I think they might make a empathetic parent, particularly to a child that faces similar mental challenges.

    ETA  oh wait, I have heard of some very mentally impaired adoptive parents. guess it depends if you have the cash.

Depends on so many factors.  But the most basic of basic requirements is that the adoptive parent must be "physically, mentally and emotionally healthy" enough to appropriately raise and care for a child. Then there is also the financial aspect, in that a parent must be able financially to care for and raise the child.

  5. it depends on the degree of mental challange. Call and ask a social worker or adoption counseler.
