Question:

Can a migraine headache or car sickness cause slight pupil dilation in one eye?

After a bumpy, rough car ride I developed motion sickness, which brought on a migraine and nausea. When I looked in the mirror, my right eye was dilated more than my left - this lasted for approximately three hours, then the left eye dilated more than the right, the next day the right eye dilated more than the left, and then the day after that everything was fine. It was a very subtle discrepancy between eye dilation, nothing huge or overly noticeable, but enough for me to discern that they weren't the same. I really doubt I had a concussion, so that shouldn't be it. Each time I looked in the mirror, I had a migraine. Is it possible that the migraines caused the eye dilation anomolies? Could the bumpy car ride have caused a transient elevation in intracranial pressure? If so, could this have caused any permanent damage, or is it completely temporary? Should I see a doctor? I feel fine now. What would a doctor even do, besides request an M.R.I. or Catscan?

  1. Research mydriasis and migraine. Mydriasis is the dilation of the pupil. You can also look up asymmetrical mydriasis as well. Mydriasis is a symptom of migraine in a lot of people. Symptoms of migraine can last a long time even if the pain is gone. You might want to talk to your doctor about it to get a medical opinion. I am not a doctor. I am only an optician. I have friends that get migraines and this is wy I know a bit about it and also what I have looked up.  If you have a doctor that has treated you for migraines before they most liekly won't order extreme tests on you unless you still have lingering symptoms. You should still always consult a doctor when you have eye issues that are not normal. Just so you know.
