Can a minor buy a Amtrak ticket?

I'm 17 and don't wanna waste time by attempting to buy one. Would like to go to Philly for a concert and need a ticket from newark NJ to philly. Do i need a parent to come with me to buy a ticket? Do i need any ID? If so what ID are good? is a Passport alright?

  1. Yes you can. You will need a photo ID, but that is for security reasons not because of your age.

    A passport will work fine. But just in case you may want to have a second ID, like a school ID, with your picture on it.

Yes you can buy an Amtrak ticket on your own as an unaccompanied minor, from the conductor or from a ticket agent, but you need valid photo id - in your case a passport would be just fine, or official student identification. Also note that you don't get any discounts which you might get if travelling with an adult as an accompanied child.
