Can a minor teenager ride a mini chopper/scooter on sidewalk?

I AM 14 YEARS OF AGE I LIVE IN LOUISVILLE AND I NEED TO KNOW IF ITS LEGAL TO RIDE MY MOTOR ENGINED, MINI CHOPPER/SCOOTER ON SIDEWALKS

yes, it is illegal for you to ride that on a sidewalk... i live in jeromesville, and my friend next door has one and he is an adult, and he got in trouble for riding it on the sidewalk. it has to be electric.... but call your local police station NOT 911!!!!!!! and ask them just to make sure...

In most states, it is illegal for many reasons.

You cannot operate a motorized vehicle on public sidewalks, and neither can you operate a motorized vehicle on the roads if it is not street legal (has headlight, brake lights, tail lights, turn signals and a registered license plate), and you have a driver's license (also not possible at 14).

However, it is enforced about as often as the laws that state a driver is not to do anything that may distract him/her from safely operating a vehicle (i.e. CELL PHONE USE).

i do not no how it is in louisville but in south carolina you have to be 15 just get a permit to drive one legally.

and as far as driving on the side walk, thats a big no no. that is un less you would like a ticket for reckless driving. but hey its your money.

The fact that you ask, is a sign that you do not know the traffic laws under which you are required to operate it. So go down and pick up the silly booklet that every state uses to teach traffic laws and STUDY.  Because everyday you see a cop, you will have another exam.

He will give you a ticket, and probably suspend you license and if you continue to operate it, Confiscate the Mini-Chopper/scooter.

And well he should, as you have no more got a clue than a cow on rollerskates.

No, you cannot.  I know that Mike P. says otherwise, and if you eventually want to be his cellmate, follow all of his advice that you can.  A sidewalk is for NON motorized vehicles, and if your mini-chopper isn't DOT certified, it can't be used on ANY public road, period.  And as for riding a DOT compliant, 49cc or less 2 wheeled vehicle on public roads, requirements vary from state to state.

Sidewalks are for pedestrians, and in some jurisdictions, bicyclists and roller skaters.  Besides, just what kind of parents let their kid find this out for themselves?  Have them check it out with the authorities.  Or, do it, get caught, and find out that, contrary to what some have said, the authorities can really mess up your day no matter HOW old or young you are.

In MOST jurisdictions, it would be illegal to operate a motorized bike of ANY TYPE on and over PUBLIC sidewalks.

In other jurisdictions, it is even illegal to operate a bicycle on public sidewalks.

hey dude straight up, i am 17 and i live in louisville and i use to have a little spree/scooter/mopad that i use to drive on the sidewalk all the time and i was likearound 14 and 15 so i say go for it. i mean they cant really pull you over and give you a ticket, cause it wont effect you since you aint got a license. they'll just tell you to stop. but i had mine for about a year and a half and nothing was ever said to me. and i drove it miles at a time sometimes. so i say have fun. check into gettin a orange flag for it though.
