Question:

Can a model home/office have tenants?

I live in a community of town houses. There is a model home that is used as the office. The also have a drop box for rent. The tenants have just learned that a couple will be living in the bottom of the model home. Neither of these tenants work for this complex, but one is related to the owners. Is this okay since they will have access to the drop box since they have keys to the home?

  1. That's a huge risk to the owners.  Those tenants could disappear with everyone's rent check, cash the checks, and the owner's wouldn't see a penny of revenue while all the tenants have proof they paid the rent (or be SOL if they paid with a money order).

This may also allow you to break your lease without penalty, check with your local laws.
