  1. Absolutely, all hybreed animals like mules and ligers are sterile. They cannot reproduce.

  2. A female mule, called a "molly", that has estrus cycles and can carry a fetus, can occasionally occur naturally as well as through embryo transfer.

Several mollies have produced offspring when mated with a purebred horse or donkey. Since 1527 there have been more than 60 documented cases of foals born to mollies around the world. There are no recorded cases of fertile mule stallions.

In most fertile mollies, the dam passes on a complete set of her maternal genes (i.e., from her horse/pony mother) to the foal; a molly bred to a horse will therefore produce a 100% horse foal.

So it would seem that in rare cases a female can reproduce, but not a male.

  3. No.

  5. No. Mules are the offspring of a donkey and a horse. Mules are sterile.

  6. Generally speaking, no. Most hybrids are sterile due to the parent species having different numbers of chromosomes. However, there are rare cases of female mules being fertile. There is no record of a male being fertile, so you could never breed two mules together and produce a baby mule. If you have a fertile female, you can breed her back to a horse or donkey, though.
