If you take a nail gun and shoot the nail in a kitchen countertop, can the countertop be fixed or do you have to buy a brand new one to replace the old?

  1. you will need a new one, there is no good way of fixing the top.+ Anything you put in the hole is a band-aid that will deteriorate. After that water will get into the area which will ruin it. If you can't afford a new, i would suggest the seam-fill caulking

  2. Well, if it is a laminated top, you can get a repair kit for filling in seams, etc.  SeamFil is one brand.  You'll most likely have to blend some colors to get a match, but they provide a color chart with the correct color tubes you need to get the appropriate match.  You can also blend it to be a satin, or high gloss, finish, when completed.  (see the link below)

If this is a solid core countertop, like Corian, then you can get someone who installs this type of product to do a repair for you, and it will blend in perfectly when they are done.  They will mix a color match, and fill the hole, then sand and polish it to match the existing material.

If this is a wood surface, then there are plenty of choices to match wood grain and color (tho a wood countertop is rare these days).

If this is a stone countertop (like marble or granite), then you can also get an epoxy to match the stone, and blend it like the solid surface materials, tho you need special tooling to work it.

Better Questions Yield Better Answers.....   I'm simply amazed at the number of folks who fail to provide the important details in their questions, lol.

Im providing the link to the Kampel website -- for this type of repair you want the seam filler, NOT the caulk.  The Seamfil product dries hard....caulk remains soft.  The site also has a "how to" video for those unfamiliar with the product.

If you need to hire someone to do this for you, I'd recommend looking for a counter installer.... not all cabinet shops will have someone experienced at this type of repair, so you may have to check around a bit.  It's not terribly difficult tho, if you have a good eye for color matching, and some patience, and wish to do it yourself.

  3. If this was done on my counter top, and I couldn't afford a new one because gas is so high---I would take some saw dust and Elmer's glue make enough to fill the hole, let it dry, sand it down, mix some crafting paint to match the counter top, let that dry, then I would put some polyurethane right on that spot.

That is what I would do until I could afford a new counter top.

  4. Oh BS!!!

    What kind of top?

    Is the nail sticking out?

Where in the top is it located?

This info is needed forst before any general non-sequitor  BS answers about  it be ruined can be given.

  5. Check the glues and woodfiller areas at Lowes or Home Depot to see what you find.  I would bet there is some kind of epoxy that could be mixed up and put in the hole.
