Can a non HD VCR be hooked up to an HDTV and work??

ok sooo about a year and a half ago i got a VCR from JVC.

then we bought a new LG big screen HDTV a couple of months ago. My brother says that the VCR is not HD apparantly (although it looks like it but i wouldn't know) and that it cant be hooked up to our new tv........

is that true? if not how can i hook the vcr to the tv?

  1. As long as your tv has the plugs in the back for a video cable or an S-cable you should be able to plug it in.


  2. Hook it up through the coax hook-up (cable or antennae) or through the RCA jacks.  The fact that the VCR is not HD is irrelevant.

  3. You have at least two choices.

    Most HDTVs have an NTSC RF input, so you could just connect through that.

    A better solution would be to use the composite outputs. Those are the (usually) yellow, red and white outputs. Connect these to the composite inputs of the TV. This would be a better quality solution. You'll have to set the TV to accept a line input from its menus.

    I either case, you'll only get a standard definition (SD) image, so if your TV is large, 40" or more, it may look fuzzy relative to the HD content.

  4. You can hook it up and it will work, it just won't be in HD. Your TV should have different inputs: usually for a VCR it's a red, white, and a yellow RCA connection. The ones on the TV should match the ones on the VCR.
