A non profit housing cooperation is threatening to sue me as a result of undeclared income. Does anyone know if they can do these? What are my options? I already moved out from the house but they want 2 years back rent. They are using a collecting agent.

  1. Hey sometimes when you try to get away with something you get caught. You got caught and they d**n well CAN sue you. If they allow anyone to get away with this kind of thing they won't last as a non profit for very long. So what YOU do can s***w up someone else's business but YOU think they shouldn't be suing you?  Think again.

  2. Of course they and they should. Why in the h**l would you want to s***w a cooperation that is the trying to help to poor and needy. You should be ashamed of yourself.

  3. They can not only sue you, they can have you charged by the police with fraud.

  4. Of course they can. Because you lied about your income, you were therefore allowed to pay lower rent, which is fraud.

If you would have declared your truthful income, your rent would have been higher, therefore you DO still owe them rent and they can go after you. I work in the social sector and unfortunately see this happen quite often. I would look into it at Legal Aid or a community legal clinic in your area.

  5. They definalty can ! I heard about a family who had to pay back every cent in the newspaper !
