im going part time this semester just to see how college is like, then start going full time in the spring.

Yes, you can. You just won't get as much as if you were a full-time student.

Fill out and submit your FAFSA. Do it NOW, as these things take time to process, and fall semester is already here. You may have already missed out on some money because you waited so late.
