  1. An original passport application must be made in person. Renewals can be made as long as certain requirements are met.


  2. You can apply for a passport in any US Post Office.  You have to apply in person, and present a birth certificate and other forms of ID, as specified on the application.  You then have to write 2 checks (or can pay in cash).  It takes up to 10 weeks to receive the passport.
