Can a person be g*y and a Christian?

Leviticus 18:22

'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

The above excerpt was taken from Leviticus 18:22 (NASB). I want to make it perfectly cystal clear, that my question is neither a "covert" or "clandestine" attempt to slander those who are g*y and Christian. Also, it's not an attempt to insult Christianity. Every time I ask controversial questions, people start loosing their minds, beating on their keyboards and typing insane responses. ( ^ _ ^ )

Ya know what? if you find my question insulting just don't answer it. Fair enough? Ok. Part two of my question is how do g*y Christians feel about Leviticus 18:22? Or is it taught or spoken of by g*y Bishops, Pastors or the g*y clergy? Serious question. Serious answers.

  2. i firmly beleive you can be a christian and g*y. In life we do not have a choice over who we love. that is predestined before our birth heck before our conception. i know god does not make mistakes so if your g*y why not love the baby jesus?

To become a Christian is to ask the Holy Spirit to dwell in your heart.  He cannot coexist in a heart that also willingly harbors sin.  True, everyone sins; but we must feel remorse and repent of those sins.  Anyone who engages in sin (i.e. a practicing homosexual, cheater, slanderer, thief) is not repentant.  Hence, not a Christian.

    Telling yourself that something is true even though God says otherwise doesn't make it true.  If you want to pass a test, study the book.  Don't just take my word for it.  And don't wait until it's too late.  Please.

The B ible also says  in Genesis 2:24-25 , “Therefore  a man shall  leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.  And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”  Hebrew 13:4 says, “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” In Romans 1:26-27 Paul is very specific, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”  And also In 1 Corinthians 6:9, Paul wrote, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind.”  The Greek word from which the King James Bible gets the word “effeminate” is malakos, which literally means something soft to the touch, but is used as a negative metaphor to refer to a boy kept for homosexual relations with a man.  The “abusers of themselves with mankind” are those men who engage in unnatural sexual relations with other men – homosexuals. I remember when mathew shephard was murdered and the baptist church held signs outside the courthouse of the murderers , hate messages, How terrible that was THey were not christians at all, Fact is, none of knows the true reason why there is homosexuality, the only thing for people to do is not to CHOOSE to be a part of the act and follow the lord in the right way. No one can be both g*y and christian, you can believe in God all you want but unless your are changed thru the Cross and by the Blood, your not saved.

  8. Why do people feel the need to judge others and claim to know what god or christ would say about it? How much of the bible has been altered over time? How much has been omitted and/or improperly interpreted?

    I believe that is between the individual and god or jesus and not my place to question.

    I used to know a person that was openly homosexual and catholic. He met with a bible study group arranged by and partaken of by a priest.

    If it is possible, yes. How they feel about Leviticus, I do not know.

    I will say  that if I were to take all that is in the bible seriously, I would be offended by the discriminatory attitude of any handicapped person, as stated in Leviticus 21:16-23. It makes Hitlers judgment of handicapped look mild, although the result of Hitlers judgment was more extreme.

    How many "disabled" persons are christian and how do they feel about (23) yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. ........ That does not only include what is socially considered "disabled" but goes further to include (18) No man who has any defect..... and (20) ....., or who has any eye defect, .....

    These are rules for priests but openly shows the lack of value and intolerance placed on anything or anyone who is less than perfect. I am not homosexual but I am a minister, not christian. I am also a disabled veteran. A homosexual may be no partake of any sexual activity, a person with "any defect" cannot choose not to partake of it.

    How many of the "christians" who are opposed to homosexual practices still attend a church or follow a denomination where the leadership is forbidden by god to be the leaders? If you oppose one thing because it is in the bible, be sure to oppose the other things that are also violations. That would surely have almost every "christian" church empty. How many of the Popes were free of "defect"?

  9. It's clear in God's Word that the two don't go hand in hand.  To be a Christian is to turn from sin and follow Christ.  One can't continue IN their sin and still claim to follow Him.

    He said, "My sheep know My voice and they follow Me."  Following Him means to live for Him, not self.

  10. Well, I think it is a fair enough question.  It is a hot topic, as my Church has dealt with it in the past, but I don't speak for anyone but myself.

    I am not really versed in many of the languages of the Bibles in use today.  King James, being the most popular, but mine is a little older, so...  This seems pretty much like modern English, so the implication would be clear.  Straight = Good, g*y = Bad.  However, there are some things that aren't said here.

    Being g*y is a state of mind.  Having s*x with a person, male or female, is an act.  So, why can't a g*y be a Christian?  If s/he isn't having s*x, then s/he isn't violating any aspect of that commandment.  If a person isn't g*y, but has s*x with a man, wouldn't that make him wrong, as he did violate the law?  

    What about the men who have s*x changes?  

    Also, this is very clear.  It implies that a male lies with a male, not a female with a male or two females.  So, are Lesbians OK?  A lot of the stuff in the Bible is set for males only, or from a male point of view.  

    Now, as for my g*y friends who claim Christianity.  Uh, they don't see anything wrong with being both.  I guess, they dismiss it as  homophobic, since we have never really hit on a conflict between them.  With the one I have debated on this, we came down to it being a form of "unnatural s*x."  He argued it was, I say it wasn't.

    His thinking is that animals "practice" on other males, and even show dominance, so...  No, he's not saying g**s are animals, just showing that other creatures have homosexual relations.  He also contends that it is an act of nature, not pleasure, so being g*y is natural and not a choice, like many assume it is.  Some good points, in my book.

    I, however, say it is "unnatural" because it cannot lead to pregnancy, and birth, the intended purpose of s*x.  This is similar to the Catholic thought, in a way.  However, this means that anal and oral, as well as any form of s*x with birth control, is unnatural since it prevents the end result.  So...does it matter if you are m/m or m/f if you can't have kids from the act?

    I would like to meet a g*y Bishop or Priest, to find out their point of view, but there are none in my area, that I know of. :)  

    If you can, when I'm in doubt about something like this, I dig into an old, old text and see what it says.  In this case, the Torah, with commentary and exact wording/translations.  It can be hard to do, unless you have a large library or Temple to check with, but it find it fun to do.

  11. I will say yes, if they are non-practicing. We all have a sin nature, and each one of us has our own sins we must crucify. For some, the temptation is to steal (kleptomania), for some it is heterosexual lusts, for some - homosexual, others its pedophilia, others it is anger, others it is hatred. Sometimes it is a combination. It is not the temptation or attraction which is the problem, but allowing that sin nature to reign in your life and manifest itself, either in fantasy or in action. The g*y cannot help his/her attraction to the same s*x, but he/she can choose to resist that sin from manifesting in their life.

    However, it they choose the g*y lifestyle, and most likely even try to defend that lifestyle as acceptable to God, odds are they are not saved. Romans 2 and others are very clear about that. I am not talking about those who struggle with it and sometimes stumble, but those who think it is okay.

    Just lie with a male as one lies with a male.  In other words, as long as you don't wear lingerie, I think the Bible is silent on the topic.

I am a g*y Christian and whether you like it, approve of it or detest it does not matter to me in the least.  It's between God and me.  Christ tells us that "whosoever believes in Him will have eternal life." He does not say, "Whichever heterosexual believes...." Since Christ never condemned g*y people or condoned homophobia, I'll side with Christ on this issue rather than a bunch of angry, anti-g*y activists trying to justify the homophobia in their own hearts.  A homophobic Christian is an oxymoron.  Even the Bible says in more than one place that revilers are not going to Heaven.

  15. well i think I'm going to help you starting off with 2 question of my own.. do you believe in God? do you truly believe that the Bible is God's word? If your answer is yes, then i can help you out.... the Bible clearly states that it is wrong. a lot churches that accept g*y relationships, usually avoid that scripture and others related to it. instead they talk about how a couple should treat each other. but for anyone that is a true christian, they would follow what the Bible says (what God says) instead of the church or anyone else. here are some other scriptures i'm sure will be helpful to anyone who is confused.

  21. Of course they can. The Bible also tells us not to lie. So can someone be a liar and still be a Christian? Sure. Have you ever known anyone who didn't lie at some point?

    Being a Christian has nothing (repeat, nothing) to do with our behavior. It simply has to do with the status of ones soul. To be a Christian you must be born again as Jesus explained in John chapter 3. If a person believes that they are a sinner -- no matter what the sin: homosexuality, lying, worrying, etc -- and they believe that Jesus took the punishment for their sins when He went to the cross, then they are by definition a Christian.

    Once someone becomes a Christian they don't become perfect or in any way become able to keep all of God's commandments. We weren't made to be perfect. We were made to be forgiven. We will still make mistakes. We should strive to flee from sin, but we know we will not be able to do that 100% of the time.

  24. If a person has homosexual s*x and doesn't think there is anything wrong with it that is a sign of an unrepentant heart. Chances are they were never saved.

    The bible is clear you will not inherit the kingdom of God if you are participating in homosexual activities and or premarital affairs.

  26. Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 are the only direct references to same-gender s*x in the Old Testament. They are both part of the Old Testament Holiness Code, a religious, not a moral code; it later became the Jewish Purity Laws. ["Abomination" is used throughout the Old Testament to designate sins that involve ethnic contamination or idolatry. The word relates to the failure to worship God or to worshiping a false god; it does not relate to morality.] Professor Soards tell us, "Old Testament experts view the regulations of Leviticus as standards of holiness, directives for the formation of community life, aimed at establishing and maintaining a people's identity in relation to God."(Soards, Marion L, Scripture and Homosexuality: Biblical Authority and the Church Today, 57) This is because God was so determined that his people would not adopt the practices of the Baal worshipers in Canaan, and same-gender s*x was part of Baal worship. (The laws say nothing about women engaging in same-gender s*x; probably this had to do with man's dominance, and such acts by the subservient had nothing to do with religious impurity.)

    God required purity for his worship. Anything pure was unadulterated, unmixed with anything else These Purity Laws prohibited mixing different threads in one garment, sowing a field with two kinds of seed, crossbreeding animals. A few years ago in Israel when an orthodox government came into power, McDonalds had to stop selling cheeseburgers. Hamburgers, OK. Cheese sandwiches, OK. But mixing milk and meat in one sandwich violated the Purity Laws--it had nothing to do with morality. These were laws about worshipping God, not ethics, and so have no bearing on our discussion of morality. Helmut Thielicke remarks on these passages: "It would never occur to anyone to wrench these laws of cultic purification from their concrete situation and give them the kind of normative authority that the Decalogue, for example, has."(Helmut Thielicke, The Ethics of s*x, 227)

    Another reason they are not pertinent to our discussion is that these laws were for the particular time and circumstances existing when they were given. If you planted a fruit tree, you could not eat its fruit until its fifth year, and all fruit the fourth year must be offered to the Lord. A worker must be paid his wage on the day of his labor. You must not harvest a field to its edge. We readily dismiss most of them as not applicable to our day and culture, and if we dismiss some of them for any reason, we have to dismiss all of them, including the sexual regulations, for that same reason.

    When we add the fact that these laws were talking about heterosexuals, it makes three reasons, any one of which would be sufficient, why they have no bearing on questions about homosexuals or homosexuality or on the morality of same-gender s*x by homosexuals today.
