Can a person cash an airplane ticket in for cash?

I think you can do it only if it was paid for in cash.  And you'd need ID to prove it was your ticket.

If you paid full fare rate, then you can get your money back on the ticket. If you paid in cash, you can either get cash or the company's check.  If you paid by credit card, they refund the credit card that the ticket was paid on.

If you got a discounted flight, nearly always these are non-refundable. Keep the ticket though. You can usually pay a fee and use the ticket at a later time for less than it would cost to rebuy the ticket.

if you paid via cash at a Field Ticket Office or the Airport then the airline will more than likely mail you a check if you're refunding your ticket. of course minus the fee to change your ticket. so sometimes it's better just to use it as credit towards your next flight
