Im 22 in two months. I ve been so focused on school and bills that ive set my one true happiness in life aside: music. I want to study sound engineering and song write and perform. However, I have become so fixated on the age of artists in the music industry that I feel I am dooming myself. Not that my quest is for fame. I think "Hey Freddie Mercury was 24, Steven Tyler was 23 when they had their big breaks" Then I look at people like Fergie, Damien Rice, and Gavin Degraw...they were mature when they became big names. But there are the Hilary Duffs and Miley Cyrus of the world. Do you think music is nowadays like modeling, where at 22 im fairly long in the tooth in the industry? It seems today everyone wants to be a musician, which blows, because ive been writing lyrics literally since I could write. I dont know how to want anything but music in my life. Is there still hope??

  1. No, you're never too old! There are tons of people out there who've made it in the business who are slightly older. It seems that you truly do love music, and that's what matters, not how old you are. And when it comes to the Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, childhood musicians, at least you can say you had a normal childhood.

  2. no, your never too young.

I once heard about a lady who started teaching piano, when she was 90.

  3. Well, you know the answer is no, right?

There's this Greek pianist - I forget his name - who only started learning the piano at age 30. Today he is a performing virtuoso.

And, if you're a composer, which you sound like you are, you shouldn't have to worry about late starts. After all, you've been writing for many years already!

I've only one thing to tell you... Follow your heart's desire. There's no point doing something you hate for the rest of your life.
