I've heard that there are legal ramifications if a Canadian purchases property from the U.S. Is this true? Are there legal problems one can encounter if something goes sideways financially, could they come after your property in Canada. I've heard this from people, I'm not sure if this is right. Please answer..

  1. Anyone from anywhere can buy property in the U.S. if they have the cash.  If you have to borrow money to do it, that may be an entirely different story.  I imagine you would need enough of a down payment that the lender would have a low risk of taking a hit if you did not fulfill your obligations.

  2. yes you can.  will a Canadian bank give you a mortgage on a US property?

  3. no...please stay in Canada.
