Ok my best friend wasn't at school yesterday, or today and i tried texting and calling her but got no response. So i called her house phone and her dad answers saying that last night she was hospitalized for Pericarditis, or a heart infection i guess and she will be in the hospital for several more days. But today when i got home realized we drink off eachothers cups or water bottles all the time i am wondering if i can contract Pericarditis drinking off someones cup? I have research everywhere and i can't find information on weather it is contagious!

  1. Pericarditis is the term used to describe inflammation around the heart. It doesn't tell you the cause of the inflamamtion.

You're not likely to develop it from sharing drinks and I haven't heard of a preicarditis being infectious.

  2. Assuming she has a viral pericarditis, which is pretty common, and you get the virus, it's still very unlikely it would cause pericarditis in you. These things happen a lot in medicine, where bugs that normally cause a common illness will occasional cause one you don't think of.
