  1. There isn't Military Psychologist's, all Psychological evaluation's are done by Civvy Psychologist's that are contracted in so yes, they would give your CO the Psychological report and you would then be Medically discharged.

  2. The civilian psychologist himself cannot discharge the military member. The most he would be able to do is make a recommendation to the persons command. They in turn would send him to see a military psychologist, who would also probably make the same recommendation. Then the command would ask BUPERS to discharge the individual, based on the recommendations.

  3. No,  I'm pretty sure you can only get a medical discharge from a military medical board.

  4. Once a soldier receives psychiatric treatment the military will ask for a letter from the person asking for a prognosis like what is the illness, what is the treatment and what is the long term prognosis for this patient.  Based on that information a medical board can decide to run the soldier through a full medical board to see if they are retainable.  or not.

At the end of the day the military gives the individual soldier a lot of input as to what they want to do - the board process is long and tedious.  You will have to make the decision as to weather or not you want to disagree with the psychologists diagnosis.  Good luck.

  5. If the psychologist, civilian or not, finds a soldier unfit for service, then yes he/she can get discharged

  6. A civilian psychologist has no authority to discharge anybody in the military; he or she recommends an individual maybe unfit for duty, it still needs to be reviewed by military doctors and that recommendation endorsed prior to military authorities approving the individual to be medically discharged.

  7. yes. but he would have to be examined by a military shrink after the civilian recommendation.
