I've always been a drowsy person at school and work even though i get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. I thought it was related only to my attention span because i have add, but i've been doing a lot of research and found pretty much every fact about it would correspond to a condition of over-production of adenosine.

Adenosine plays an important role in biochemical processes, such as energy transfer - as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) - as well as in signal transduction as cyclic adenosine monophosphate, cAMP. It is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter, believed to play a role in promoting sleep and suppressing arousal, with levels increasing with each hour an organism is awake.

  1. It could be a lot of things.  Low thyroid levels, sleep apnea, diabetes,  it could be anything.  If it really interferes with your everyday life, then see a Doctor.

If caffeine doesn't help, then it probably isn't related to adenosine.  I don't think they know enough about adenosine to determine how much drowsiness it would cause during the day.   Also, it is pretty complicated. It has a lot to do with adenosine receptors in the brain, too.

If it is high in your body, it would affect your blood pressure and your heart.  It is seen in asthma patients.  It would affect a lot of other areas in your body.  I think your drowsiness has nothing to do with levels of adenosine.  There is a drug form of adenosine.  Look at the side effects. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/adenos...

If a person had high levels in their blood, they would see a lot of those side effect.
