Do you have to be born with natural talent, or is it something you can accomplish with practice, lessons etc?

  1. It can go both ways. A friend of mine who doesn't have a natural ability to sing is taking lesssons (opera) and after a year she was really good. It's all in the practice if you're not born with it.

  2. You can be born with natural talent

And it is also something you can practice

  3. Natural talent certainly helps, but I know many people who had fairly mediocre voices yet, after excellent voice training, sang beautifully.

Lessons will instruct you on how to use your voice, which is a marvelous instrument. You'll learn about breath control, diction, tone quality - all kinds of things important in producing a great sound.

If you're asking about having a great natural voice because you want to become a professional musician, the best person to advise you is a professional singer and teacher.

As long as you don't have a "tin ear" - as long as you can distinguish pitches - I think you'll be fine.
