Do we have preset charactoristics we are aware of from birth that can't change or are we able to train ourself to think and act a certain way? Do we figure out things about ourselves as we go through life that would contridict things we had thought previously in life? Or can we just cover uo the things we don't like about ourselves but never really change them?

  1. Yes, with God's help.

  2. For one thing, people grow up. For another crippling problems like phobias can be become minor problems if we learn to apply cognitive behavioral techniques. And people can always get worse by decompensating into psychosis. People can also become "better" in the sense of more altruistic, more generous, kinder, gentler and so on by, for instance, becoming a Quaker.

Genes are only the cards we are dealt. The cards have to be "activated" to become phenotypes. Even in twins some genes will be activated in one twin differently than they are in the other.

  3. Those of us that can change, that are humble enough to accept lessons in life and not eternally repeat them -- they are those who can adapt and will be at the vanguard of the evolution of humanity.  Self-contradiction and paradox are things that will tell you you're on the right track.  The battle is ultimately inside all of us.  Killing each other is just a symptom of another problem - those who do it are too set in their ways.

Those of us that can't change are fighting a losing battle.  Cut your losses and learn!

  4. No.  We can never change.  The best we can do is train ourselves to recognize certain patterns of behavior and learn to transform how we think about them, which gives rise to new actions.  But these patterns and characteristics don't begin at birth either.  They are developed over time.  We just can't really change them.  Nor can we fight against them, like "we don't like those things".  We can only owne up to them and choose new ways of thinking, and new actions as a result.

  5. people are changing constantly....its called growth. Every hardship we suffer teaches us more and more about ourselves. Everytime we meet a new person or travel to a different place we learn more, our views and opinions change. Its part of maturing. When we were little we thought that if a boyfriend or girlfriend so much as talked with another that they were cheating....then we grew and cheating took on a whole new definition. Its the same with every view pretty much.

  6. a homosexual molested me when i was young, and i heard a booming voice in my head saying.

    "IT IS WRONG"

and i never became a homosexual.

i could have but  [ THE VOICE ] changed me. for ever.

  7. Yes, people "can" truly change!    You can teach an old dog new tricks, too!  Just ask me!! :D

  8. No..sure you can change..but somewhere your still the same.

It could be when your alone, or when your with you family. You can't change, you can regret and fix but you can not change.

  9. I'm sure we all see people changing constantly. Life is all about changing and learning. No matter who people try to influence our thinking, it's always up to us in the end to make the decision.
