Ok lets say a person gets a job in the liberal arts, can this person then get a position in an office as a receptionist, secretary? How much do you think they would pay if I had a bachelor's degree in the liberal arts? Or would an associate degree in office administration do the same and help me get the same job?

  1. a person with no degree can get those jobs. Any degree is just a added plus. As for salary, it depends on the industry.

  2. Sure they could, but they'd be setting their standards a bit too low. A liberal arts degree (while certainly not the most attractive bachelors out there) can do better than just an administrative assistant.

The US still has a shortage of teachers and many charitable foundations usually have good salaried positions for people of good character and communication skills. With a little bit of additional study, one could easily position themselves for this kind of job.

Don't sell yourself short - The market is rough right now, but talented individuals can still find good jobs.

  3. You should be able to get a job as an administrative assistant or a receptionist.  A lot of people have steady careers in administration.  I was a LAS grad about 2.5 years ago and my first job was being the Assistant Office Manager for a law firm.  I was paid 31k plus benefits.  They paid me more because I had a bachelors degree.  I am now working as a recruiting assistant for a good-sized insurance company making a couple thousand more plus a better benefits package.  I just used my administrative background as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.  Having a degree opens so many more doors.

  4. Unfortunately these days it's better to take any well paying job with good benefits.  I don't think it matters whether you have a bachelors or an associate's as long as you have a good organized mind, have a great personable personality, and have a firm but friendly manner.
