I am about to do a job interview over the phone.

If they ask me about my weaknesses what should I say?

Here are a few options, Shy - but I am very capable of keeping that hidden and come across and confident.

It is for an administrative possition which I have had epeierence in, but all my exp has been part time, or in an internship so I could say lack of full time exp?

Maybe spelling? I am not the best, but I compleatly utalize computer programs and spell check to make sure I dont make mistakes when it is important.

What do you think? and also can you write out a good answer in a paragraph so I can have an example of correct wording?

Thank you very much for your time!

  1. "I'm a little shy in certain situations.  But I'm confident in my abilities and can come across with that confidence.  Another challenge I look forward to, is turning my part-time and internship experience into a full-time career."

Do NOT say you're lousy at any skill.  Best not to mention it.

There you've turned two potential negatives into positives.  Keep in mind, you're interviewing the company:  so don't be afraid to guide the questions back to comfortable ground.

An example:  after they ask about weaknesses, you reply as above, then say something like, "..but my strengths which are xxxx I think are exactly a fit for this job".  Or, "...now what exactly is the work environment here?"  You get the idea.

    Good luck

Almost forgot, some phone interview tips:

1- Answer and talk with the interviewer STANDING UP.  Believe me, you can tell the difference.  One can also tell when someone's smiling as well, when you've done a few of those.  Smile, and be positive.

2- If you have kids, roommates etc, answer the phone in a quiet room.  Turn off the TV, stereo, and computer.

3- Don't chew gum, eat or drink.  I'm not kidding, I had one guy do this while interviewing me (!) for a Doctoral program.  I let him have it, verbally and went with another program.

4- If you're going to interview via cellphone-not a good idea but if that's all you have you've no choice, find a spot in your house with great coverage and stay there.  Chase out any noise generators; see #2.
