Can a person with an IQ below 70 make it to junior year in university?

Im an accounting major going into my junior year next semester, yet my coworkers are under the impression that im not "just" stupid but suffer from full-blow mental retardation. I did take an IQ test once in middle school, but Im reluctant to ask my parents what it was because they will most likely lie no matter what and say its higher to boost my confidence and whatnot.

I will admit Im apathetic at times toward the coworkers (and despise them most of the time) and my job and I understand this may be a part of the problem.

But I still don't understand why they insist I am retarded. They dumb things down for me when it isnt at all necessary, and they think I have no clue whatsoever about the world. One time I my manager asked me if I had money in a checking account as I was writing a check (Granted, I did say "This is my first check, heh.").

I wonder if its autism or simple retardation.

  1. You could be on the Autism Spectrum. Most of the research about people with intellectual disabilities says that they need a lot of help to function. One peice of research I got when I did my disability care course said that people with mild intellectual disability (I.Q of 55 - 70) need assistance with money if their really in trouble but can handle day to day stuff. Which if your doing accounting I think would say that you can handle anything money throws at you once you know what your doing.

It could also be that you just don't like where you work and the side effect is that you are apathetic and despise them (which if they keep insisting that you are retarded I don't blame you for)

  2. To get low grades in examination is only situational.

You are intelligent that's why you have framed this question.

Go ahead grab the world by horns and beat it high and dry.

May be your coworkers are jealous and afraid of you .

  3. No to all of it.

    No, you aren't retarded.

No, you don't have signs of autism.

No, you could not make it to your jr year of college if you had an IQ of 70.  You wouldn't even get into college.

Your co-workers, for whatever reason, are messing with you.

When they dumb things down let them know it's not necessary -- that you are fully capable of understanding.

If they continue to do it, ignore them.

Graduate from college, and show them who's smarter.

  4. it surely doesn't sound like you have any mental problems.

if you had an iq of below 70 i doubt you would've been able to properly word your sentence or spell properly to begin with.

forget what your co-workers have got to say.. unless you work in a psychiatric facility, then don't listen to these people.

if you really wanted to, you could have another iq test done. that way you'd know for sure. and you can't rely on test scores made on you when you were in middle school. you've learned more and developed more since that time then.

  5. Workers are like chooks - they tend to pick on the weak or the meek to make themselves feel more powerful. Just rise above this rot and you'll probably end up far better off than many of them.

  6. IQ Tests are meaningless despite what everyone wants to believe because not everyone does well on tests. BTW, Albert Einstein was labeled as a "learning disabled r****d" but look at all that he did. This just proves that people who are "mentality deficient" can succeed in life. Besides, just ignore those *ssholes and prove to them that you earned the right to work as an accountant with this firm.

  7. Why don't you go for an evaluation?  If you really want to know, find a psychologist who does full testing.  He/she will be able to tell you if you have any disabilities i.e., autism, bipolar, or anti-social tendencies and he will be able to test you for your IQ as well.

  8. Anyone 70 or below would never have been admitted to the university. The fact that  you are going into your junior year attests to the fact that you are not intellectually delayed.

Concentrate on your studies so you can graduate and get away from that set of co-workers.Meanwhile try to ignore them, which I know is not easy.

  9. It is highly unlikely that a person with an IQ below 70 would succeed in college without a lot of help.

  10. of course you can get past jr. year at a university. Just because you got a 70 or below on an IQ test... can oly mean that you don't test well
