My friend is a permanent resident for a while and I'm wondering if I can take her to countries like France, England, or Germany? She could go back to her own country but I'm not sure for the others. Thanks!

  1. Your friend would need a valid passport. Depending on where she's from, she may also need a visa to visit in Europe. It may be possible to get a single Schengen visa that would currently cover 24 countries, but England is not part of the Schengen treaty and would require a separate visa.

You can use sites like this one from Italy to determine visa requirements based on citizenship, residency, and reason for the trip: http://www.esteri.it/visti/home_eng.asp

  2. "Conley" is correct.  See site below and read paragraph on "International travel"  to see that a person with a green card in the U.S. may travel to foreign countrie with a passport from their home country.  This can be obtained from the nearest embassy or consuate of that country.  All green card holders are responsible to have a curent passpot at all times.  If your friend entered the U.S. as  a refugee, and therefore cannot get a passport from her home country, she needs to apply for a U.S. travel document.  See 2nd site.
