I got it 19th June 2008 and want to cash it 22 Sept 2008. Is a scholarship check from a local group in town I won from and don't want to lose it (i.e. put a stop to it). It has a local bank logo on it. My reasoning is to cash everything at once since I get a lot of checks. I do cashing by hand.

  1. Should not be a problem but the bank may want to verify it before giving you the money. If you are going to cash it and not deposit it, it would be better to go to the bank that has the account. If they ask tell them it was a scholarship prize and you wanted to wait until you started school to cash it so you could pay for expenses.

Many company and government checks have "only good for 90 / 180 days" but most personal checks do not.
