My husband and I have 4 cats. Before we moved in together he had 2 corn snakes. he gave them up, because the cats were climbing on top of the tank and generally harassing the snakes. Can pet cats and pet snakes live happily in the same home? Any recommendations for happiness for both creatures? Thank you!

  1. Yes... well I have a cat, and 4 snakes.

My cat doesn't like the snakes and one of the snakes (ball python) hates the cat. They just generally avoid each other. But yeah, they can live fine together. Maybe if you have an especially mean spirited or mischievous cat  or a snake that escapes a lot out to where the cats roam around you might have a bit of a problem. But other wise they should be fine. Just keep the tank very secure, and you should be good.

  2. My friend Perre has 7 cats and three snakes. He just used a spray bottle full of water on the cats, every time they climbed on the tank. Took only a few tries before the cats understood that if they touched the tank, they got wet. You can even get a motion sensor that will spray to deter this behavior.

  3. yes they can I have 3 cats 2 ball pythons and 2 cockateils and they all live peacefully all you have to do is make sure their inclosers are well secured. my birds fly on top of my snakes cage all the time and nothing comes of it. my cats dont even look at my snake although they do eye ball my birds. lol

  4. Of course! Put your snakes in a room of the house with a door and close it whenever you aren't around to keep an eye out on them. <3

  5. Yes , I lived with my sister she had a cat, and we had 5 snakes and 2 dogs. It wasn't a problem, now there is no reason either to show the cats the snakes.

  6. As long as you keep the snake away from the cat I wouldn't see a problem. Keep him in a cage or seperate room.

  7. Yes but they can't be together. If they be together one of them is going to get hurt.

  8. i dont think so. they cats might try to play with/bother the snakes and the snakes would most likely get annoyed and try to bite back. i would reccomend keeping the snakes in a room where your cats CAN'T GO IN. a room just for them. like a closet or something.

  9. the only thing i can think to say, start with kittens and make sure they dont get up there. I would have spray bottle ready. My cats used to get up there and i broke them. I have a 3 foot royal... he could have eaten my kittens should they gotten into the tank with him. they can sit on the side and look but not on the top. If the water does not work... I would look into putting them into another room... or making the snakes higher up. OR make a roomin the house the cats can not go and put the snakes inside the room and keep the door shut!

  10. I would suggest getting a very sturdy top for the snake cage.  That works for me  that way the cat can sit on top and watch them but not hurt them.  After about 4 months my cat got bored with my snakes and ignored them after that.  Every once in a while I'll see her watching them but only when they are really active.  The snakes never really seemed to care about her being up there unless they were hungry.  Then they would check her out to see if they could eat her (which they decided against)

  11. I have two corn snakes and two cats and they don't bother each otherr at all. I think that if you find a way to keep the cats off of the cage they should be fine if you get some snakes. You could keep the cats and the snakes in seperate rooms or get a top for the cage that the cats wont get on.
