  1. No, plants are not able to survive without C02. Without C02 plants would not be able to produce their own energy, and would therefore die. See, during photosynthesis plants take C02 and water H20 and using the energy from the sun convert them to glucose which is energy. As a result of this photosynthesis gives us oxygen. As far as plants that live in a fish tank, if they go through photosynthesis they are using C02. Seaweeds in the ocean can go through photosynthesis because C02 is present in the water. Just like above water the animals take in oxygen and release C02 while the plants takin in C02 and release oxygen. Fish take the oxygen in water and covert it to C02 which sea plants can use for photosynthesis. This is why plants in a fish tank help fish live better. Without some new form of oxygen the fish would die. I hope this helps :)

here is a link on the carbon cycle

  2. No, it's like taking O2 away from humans and other mammals. In fact we need eachother

    CO2 + H2O + ATP = C6H12O6 + O2

and vice versa...meaning Carbon dioxide + water+ energy (from the sun) yields sugar and oxygen then we take the oxygen and do the opposite to get energy and exhale carbon dioxide for the plants. without one the other couldn't survive.

  3. no i dont think so. It's like taking oxygen from human!

  4. generally no, since that is their source of sugar (energy) through photosynthesis. However: if you want to be picky, there are parasitic plants like Indian pipe that draw their energy from other plants, and don't need CO2 for their immediate survival. Of course without CO2 their hosts will eventually die
