Can a plant survives without roots?

another question:

is it possible for a very young plant,around five days old to survive after being transfered from its original soil to another location?assuming that the conditions of the two locations are about the same and the plant still have its roots.

  1. There are some plants that can survive without a root system. An air plant is one example.


  2. To your first question, definitely yes. There are some plants where you can even cut a leaf off and plant it the soil to grow new offspring. Other plants can grow just from a branch too.

    To your additional question, that should be possible.

    Mosses,liverworts and algae do it all the time.

    One method of propagating (getting more) plants is to take cuttings without roots and transplant them. They grow new roots.

    2)We usually do transplant seedlings just like that.
