Question:

Can a police man track someone with just a first name?

A police man approached me today, showing some interest in me and I got a little scared. I told him my name because he asked for it( and to be honest I just wanted to get away from him as quickly as possible). To make a long story short...I didn't give him my number or anything else...I refused but he said "I'll look for you." Can he look me up based on my name and location?

  1. why dont you just go to the police station and report his ***. what he did was unprofessional.  and he needs ur full name to look u up unless you have a very unique first name.

  2. No.  He is interested in who is in the neighborhood, so he may address you by name if you should meet again.  Can you imagine trying to find someone if all you know is "John"?

  3. it depends on the size of the town and how different the name is

i used to live in south west city MO pop 68 and my first name is phast (pernounced like fast)which is different

and thats how i got tracked down

  4. its very unlikely chik , but get down the cop shop an grass the perve up thats sexual harrassment thretning behaviour an using his position in a way that is a gainst the law. he needs stopping b fore somone gets hurt.

  5. Im sure it is possible but unless you have an uncommon name, it would be hard for him to narrow you down.  With your 1st name, location and probably age range, he may come up w/ a list of people in your surrounding area that meet the description but then he would have to have some additional info to narrow it down to you, specifically.

Just be careful.  Remember who he is, and if he does get intouch with you, and ever becomes inappropriate to you, be sure to keep notes and report him immediately.

  6. Yup for sure.

There's something here called the Henderson Directory...

And he has your physical description, if not an image of you (from surveillance) already.

And if you're in Britain there's CCTV.

  7. Did he ask you to hold on loosely, but don't let go? If you cling too tightly, you're gonna lose control.

  8. That seems unlikely if he had nothing else to go on. They just say that to keep you in line [they think].

  9. wow, thats funny. I saw a question earliar asking if there was a Yosi in this section

  10. Your name, age, date of birth, physical descriptors, etc. can all be used together or separate to search a database filled with information.

So, yes, he/she can look you up. If you are a good person you will not be in the system anyway.  But every ticket, traffic or criminal, police contact in a bad neighborhood, etc. can be recorded so you never know if you are in that system.
