  1. In some jurisdictions they can.  In fact my department assigns you a car to use for personal business.  The stores love to have a marked police car outside on the parking lot.

  2. Depends on the city he's from. They all have their own policies on that.

  3. It would depend on the policies of whatever force that officer works for.  Some allow that while others do not.

  4. Yes they can. I have been a police officer for over a year and I go back and forth to work in my own unit. I have a charge account at several stores in my town to fill up with gas. the town pays the bill for it. It is figured into the budget. anyone who lives within 30 miles from city limits. its kind of a benefit.

  5. I guess if not the police will lie to cover them self.

  6. The ones here do, I think it's c**p, but apparently they are on 24/7.

  7. If he has a "take home car" than yes, he can.  Different departments have different regulations, but a lot of officers take home cars for increased presence in the community, easier access for officers, some officers work in specialized units (bomb squad, swat) and are likely to be called out, etc.

It is a very common practice.  It is also a "reward" in some departments...you know...something you earn.

  8. Some depts do allow you to take your car home. Albuquerque police have been doing it for years and they use them as everyday cars. Perk to being low paid.lol. Concept is more cop cars on the street. Doesn't work.

  9. Some departments have that policy. Some do not.

  10. Yeah, but I'm OK with it if they go speeding by me.  I drop right in behind so I can enjoy the benefits of a speeding flatfoot.  My time is as valuable as his/hers/its.

  11. Yes, we have take home cars. If we live withing 25 miles of the station, we have one.  I take mine home and my neighbors LOVE IT.  Saves me tons of gas, too. Its our perk.

  12. ON SOME SPECIAL PRIVILEGES why not, if for example the one using it was the Sheriff himself, therefore he is allowed to drive to work and back home everyday. So it depends on the privileges given to a police officers, not every policemen are given such privileges. A police vehicle is A GOVERNMENT property therefore should stay in the precinct 24 hours a day to be use in emergency situation by other officers of the law.
