Yes, they can. Police are trained to search the entire person.

Prohibiting a certain area from search would be giving criminals the green light to put contraband there, defeating the purpose of the search.

Absolutely, they can also search body cavities such as inside ears, mouths, vaginas and rectums.

Definitely, and other places where the sun doesn't shine.  Most officers get a kick out of it, especially if they have a trans sexual in custody.
