I was driving through a transition of yellow to red light stop at an intersection to my apartment complex. After I entered my gated apartment complex (you can't get in without a code), I noticed a police car behind me trying to get in and left the complex's gate right away. I did not know where they came from. Could they have recorded my plate number and issue me a ticket through the mail? I live in pittsburgh, PA by the way.

  1. YES

  2. Yes they could have.  It's ,much more effective than the old carrier pigeon method.

  3. They can attempt it, but since he doesn't actually know the driver of the vechicle. You may even argue that you were purchasing a used car and place the plates on another car to drive it.

  4. yes they can. besides you are supposed to stop on the yellow and not be in the intersection during any part of the red period

  5. he would have to be really bored to give you a ticket for that.

  6. yes - especially with the new cameras, if you are the owner of a car that has committed a violation, the owner of the vehicle can get a ticket thru the mail.

  7. I don't know anything specifically about Pittsburgh law, but I do believe that some states have  installed cameras at traffic lights that will photograph your vehicle and license plate when running a red light.  By the merit of that evidence, they will be able to issue you a ticket for that violation.  These tickets are mailed to you at the address you have on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

As for whether or not an officer of the law can catch you and ticket you by sight, I'm afraid I'm not qualified to answer that question.

  8. No way.He would have stopped you.Don't worry at all.

It just doesn't work like that.
